Alternative arabic music from Jordan, empowered online

I think the cultural scene in Jordan is becoming ever more interesting. It is gaining more depth and variety and a new generation of Ammanis is starting to rear its head with new forms of artistic expression and experimentation.

Something is bubbling up..

Why do I mention this?

Because in the space of the last two hours I came across the web sites of two interesting Jordanian talents in singing/song writing.

First, there is Ruba Saqr, who has been making waves inside and outside Jordan recently. She finally has created an online home on MySpace. Two of her songs, performed in concerts, are available for listening.

Then, I found out about Aziz Maraka. This Jordanian singer/songwriter invented a new musical style: “Razz” which roughly means Arabian/Jazz/Rock. Two of his songs are available for download. [Hat tip: Khobbeizeh]

The site features Aziz in really cool photographs set in the old Jabal Amman neighborhood.

Enough said.. go have a listen..
