Here is Nokia’s press release issued today:
Nokia has announced that Users of Nokia Nseries devices will be able to directly upload, organise and share videos and photos on Ikbis, the Arab world’s first bilingual multimedia and social networking website.
The agreement, signed during PhotoWorld Dubai 2007, the Middle East’s premier digital imaging industry event, allows consumers to enjoy unprecedented experience through sharing their photos and videos with their friends, family and loved ones – directly from their Nseries device. The Ikbis service can be easily configured and downloaded onto the Nseries range of devices from www.ikbis.com/nokia. At a later stage, the Ikbis service will be embedded in selected models of the Nseries family.
“Our agreement with Ikbis here in the Middle East is part of our commitment to bring the best localized multimedia experiences to consumers in the Middle East, through a click of a button on their favourite Nseries multimedia computer,” said Neil Gordon, General Manager, Multimedia, Middle East and Africa, Nokia. “Nokia has similar agreements on a global front and we are delighted today to announce our tie-up with what was described by the popular magazine Newsweek as ‘The YouTube of the Arab World’.”
Ikbis service will be showcased at the Nokia stand, and visitors will be able to upload, annotate and tag videos and photos using their computers to create albums and share their pictures and videos online. And Nokia Nseries users are now able to access this service directly from their handsets and while on the move.
Ikbis is the first member of Forum Nokia PRO Imaging Zone, a business community launched in February 2007 designed to drive the development of mobile imaging technologies and enhance consumer experiences in capturing and sharing images with the latest Nokia Nseries devices. The forum enables member companies to ensure close interoperability of their applications and services with Nokia Nseries multimedia devices.
Nokia is displaying many of its latest and most advanced Nseries multimedia computers at PhotoWorld-Dubai 2007, including the Nokia N76, Nokia N93i and Nokia N95. Podcasting, music and navigation demonstrations at Nokia’s large display stand are available for visitors who are encouraged to ‘star’ in their own videos and take photos using these cutting-edge multimedia computers.
Nokia is the world’s largest digital camera manufacturer, with more than 140 million camera phones sold during last year. As well as offering consumers mobile devices with the latest cutting-edge imaging technology, Nokia works with a variety of partners to provide consumers with easy ways to share their video clips and photographs.
