Steorn CEO: Manufacturing cost of free energy device for cell phones expected to be comparable to current technology

24/8/2006

A live chat with Sean McCarthy is still going on. One question, I submitted to the chat, about expected cost, was answered so far. I asked about the cost of a cell phone powering device based on the technology. McCarthy said that he expects the cost to be close to current technologies.

It is worth noting that McCarthy insisted that his company will only release the technology after a panel of 12 scientists has validated their claims, a process which will take months. Also he said the Steorn has no intention of manufacturing devices. They will license the tech to others companies to manufacture devices based on it.

McCarthy came across as quite calm and believable in the chat. But no technical details where provided “for intellectual property reasons”. McCarthy did however confirm that his technology is based on magnetic fields of permanent magnets.

You can read the whole transcript of the chat session here.

  1. [...] Last week, in an internet live chat, I asked MacCarthy about the expected cost of his technology if implemented for mobile phones, which is an area that the company seems to be targeting. MacCarthy answered that it would be comparable to that of current battery technologies. [...]

  2. [...] When, in August 2006, I asked Sean (during a public online chat) about the technology and its scalability and cost for, say, powering mobile phones, his answer came across as very confident, saying that the cost of manufacturing such a powering device based on his technology, would be close to the cost of current battery technology. This answer made it seem, to me at least, that the technology was already quite mature and just needed manufacturing partners. [...]
