Arabic iPod?
I first thought this was a joke. I kind of have given up on Apple taking notice of the good old Arab world. But this news seems legit. Is this the start of something?
Gulfnews: Arabic version of iPod to be launched soonDubai: An Arabic version of Apple’s hugely popular iPod will hit the market soon, officials have revealed.”Apple is working on this. A prototype has already been made available to us,” said Elias Abou-Rustom, general manager of Arab Business Machine, Apple’s independent marketing company for the Middle East.”This could be launched in the Middle East in the coming months.”Rustom said his company is working closely with Apple on launching the Arabic version of the computer’s latest innovation, Tiger operating system, which makes computing much easier and user-friendly.The popularity of the iPod is driving Apple’s sales globally as well as regionally.
Ok! Shoutout to Microsoft and Apple: How about finally getting your act to gether and releasing an Arabic MS Office for the Mac. Now THAT’s something that will REALLY help your sales in the region!

Microsoft considered it once upon a time, however due to the piracy issues in the Middle East, they held off. Moreover, thats why the new versions of office for XP don’t support Arabic MS Word – one would have to use Windows ‘98 if they wanted it. Subsequently on the contrary – I’m not sure if it would increase either of their sales at all.
At the same time, iPods shouldn’t come as a major surprise since Apple announced within the last 24 hours that they’ve sold more iPods than Macs. Steve Jobs said at ‘06 Mac World that they selling 100 iPods a minute. Wouldn’t you open the door international markets (localization) if you sold 100 iPods per minute.

An Arabic iPod!?... Well, why not?!... An Israeli outfit dealing in Macs already have Hebrew working…
As for releasing an Arabic MS Office for the Mac, I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon… It would merely be a reason for Arabic, Parsi and Hebrew users to leave the the Windows platform…
I know from Hebrew using Mac friends that those of them that have a need to work on Hebrew documents with Windows based MS Office colleagues have found a pretty good solution in NeoOffice which is the Mac version of OpenOffice…
